Long live Firefox! I anxiously await the final release of FF3. Since using Firefox years ago, I’ve only used IE when forced to test a website in it. IE’s limitations and restrictions are irritating for web developers, such as myself. I will continue to encourage people to use Firefox and rally the fans to smash [...]

This is bad news for all eleven Safari-on-Windows users… Apple’s been making hay in its Mac vs. PC ads about Windows’ security and malware problems. But now that Apple’s playing in Microsoft’s sandbox with a Windows version of the Safari Web browser, the worm has turned.
The Windows version of Safari has a bug that’s been [...]

Here’s what Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer revealed about Windows 7 at All Things Digital a few minutes ago. The biggest “feature” is the touch and multi-touch integration, which takes many of its roots from Microsoft’s Surface Table, and will be available as an interface options for other apps. Here’s some more stuff they pulled [...]

We learned the story of Richard Gaywood, the not-so-happy Xbox Live user whose gamertag was banned. Since “RichardGaywood” was both the user’s gamertag as well as his legal, honest-to-goodness given name, Kotaku contacted Microsoft to learn the reason behind the ban.
Hit the jump for their response…

I really can’t believe Microsoft would even consider doing this - why, when you are at least a small part of the dominant new distribution mechanism for media, would you even consider giving in to the demands of someone who’s already giving their content away for free on Hulu? And it’s rather unfortunate that I [...]

It seems that Michael Dell is breathing new life into his company.
A year ago, Dell was brave enough to backtrack on its Vista-only policy for consumer machines (Dell brings back XP on home systems). It also showed some independence from Microsoft by offering Linux to consumers. And again, Dell is innovating.
Fact 1: As of June [...]

Will Microsoft’s Asirra replace the CAPTCHA as we know it? After the other day, heaven knows where CAPTCHA experts will turn.
Remember Asirra isn’t technically a CAPTCHA. the “P” in CAPTCHA stands for public. The underlying generation algorithm and database must be publicly exposed to be a true CAPTCHA.
I don’t see how this system could work… [...]

SAO PAOLO, Brazil–At a Las Vegas conference on Thursday, Gartner analysts warned that Windows is in danger of collapsing, according to a report in ComputerWorld.
Upon reading that, I wondered how this could have happened in the 10 days I have been traveling around Latin America. Although Microsoft faces challenges from Linux and piracy here, looking [...]

You know what sucks? A lot of people in the US won’t protest something much more important, but these guys in Norway, who obviously don’t have a war or loss of freedoms to protest, are still taking to the streets to voice their dissent.
In this clip she says the protesters in San Francisco will not [...]

An Information Week article published last week appears to position Microsoft as trying to do something right when it comes to open source. And it positions the open source community as being not quite ready to make nice after past insults, threats, and abuse.
Speaking for myself, I am always ready to see what somebody has [...]

Microsoft introduced System Restore in Windows Me back in 2000.
I’m not sure if it even worked. I just know it loaded an EXE on every boot, eating up precious Win9x 16/32-bit resources that helped reduce stability and require the user to reboot more than needed. I usually kept it disabled.
System Restore never really became widely [...]

Free, open source application Blue Lock monitors the proximity of your Bluetooth phone or device and automatically locks your computer whenever it’s out of range (e.g., you’ve walked away from your computer). The usefulness will depend on the strength of your Bluetooth devices, since it’s not really going to do its job if you’ve got [...]
